Click here to request a FREE exploratory coaching session Transcript Hello, everyone. I'm starting to hear a lot of people saying, "I don't have time, I'm too busy, There's too much on". I'm starting to hear people say, "I'll wait till after the holidays, I'll wait till after Christmas, I'll wait until the new year to look after myself, to lose weight, to be healthy. "You know...there's too much on, I don't have the money I'm buying Christmas presents and buying gifts. There's too many Christmas parties and end of year functions just to attend...It's just too hard over the holidays".
Now, hi, at the time of this recording, if you're watching live, of course, it is, what five weeks or so to Christmas. Now we're in the second last week of November 2019. So of course, if you're watching On replay, have a think about when it is for you. And regardless of the time, are you waiting for your desired life, your goals, your dreams, your hopes to just come to you? Are you waiting for them to just magically arrive? Or are you figuring it out? Are you working out how to do it in your life? See waiting is just trying to change the circumstances of your life. It's trying to say, Oh, well, when things calm down, when the kids leave home, when my relationship is healthy, when I've got more income, when I've got more time on my hands...then I will do the things I dream of doing. I mean, how many times have you said yourself? I'll start again tomorrow. I'll start again Monday. I will start again after the holidays? There will always be something in your circumstance, and your brain will always give you the reasons why you can't do it now. Which by the way, is how we get stuck in the same old habitual patterns, the same whole old habits that already aren't helping. That's how you created the unhealthy habits in the first (time), first place by not dealing with all the stuff that's going on, now. By not learning how to do it, and that's the beautiful thing. Life, the Universe, if you've got busy times on you got challenges and you've got concerns, great! If you've got stress, if you've got chaos, if you've got lots of emotions coming up, Awesome! Now is the time to learn how to do it. With those circumstances. In those emotions. With those excuses. Because our long term success is dependent on us overcoming those things, turning it around, to being able to live our best life, to be able to move towards our goals, despite the obstacles that get in our way. Now is the perfect time. So what if you could do it now? What if now is the perfect time for you to get started? What if now is the exact opportunity you need to learn the skills that are going to make you successful for life? To do that, you of course have to get over your excuses. Well, I guess at first you have to, you have to realize that you are making excuses. That, chances are, you're actually probably not too busy. You've got as much time as you're going to get. You've got 1044 minutes in a day, 164 hours in a week, you have all of the seconds of your life available, that you're ever going to have. So how are you prioritizing your time? Are you prioritizing the things other than your health than your well being than your success? And if so, how's that working out for you? Do you like the results? You know, if it's not a priority for you at the moment, that's okay. That's entirely your choice. But make sure you like the results and you like your reasons for not making it a priority. If you don't like those results, if you don't like your reasons, then overcoming the excuses is going to be key. Going not "Can I do it?" but "how will I do it?" What can I do, now, in this time, with these Circumstances? So I wanted to share some techniques and some tips with you today. So, firstly, the most common thing I hear is, "it's too...", or "I'm too....", you know. I'm too lazy. I'm too weak willed. I'm too busy. I'm too nice to stand up for myself to advocate for my health more being, to ask for what I want. This often comes up with movement. It's too hot, it's too cold, it's too windy, it's too dark. It's too light. It's too.... so if you ever find yourself saying it's too something or I'm too something as an excuse, as a reason why you can't then an I want to offer for you that a step you could take here is to add the phrase...."and or but or yet, I'm worth it." I'm too busy, but I'm worth it. There's too much chaos yet I'm worth it. So that's the first step. Add ..."And I'm worth it". (We get on with it), but I'm worth it. Challenge that reason for not doing it, decide that you're worth it because it's true, right? And then add "so I'll do it anyway", or "I'll figure it out", or "how can I do it?" I’m going to - how? So that's my first step. So add But I'm worth it, so I'm going to do it anyway. I'm going to figure it out, going to try and see what works. My second strategy for you is to remember to be present. really be super honest with ourselves, I get honest and decide, am I really worrying about things that will ultimately matter? How much will I care about this other thing that I'm doing, in three days, three weeks, three months, three years, three decades? What's going to make a meaningful difference in my life? Am I spending time dwelling on what has happened in the past? You know, if you have doubt about your ability, you're worried about "I don't think I can do it. I've failed so many times in the past, I might not be able to, It's too hard for me" Then you're looking at the past. Okay, that's fine, but The past doesn't tell you what you're capable of in the future. It tells you what you've been doing with your past thinking. It's only got results for what you've already created. It's got nothing to do with what you might create in the future, what might be different. That's all got to do with your thinking now. So, am I dwelling on the past? Or am I worried about the future? You're worried about what might happen, what people might think, or might say, you might do? What if you don't get it right? What if you get it wrong? What if you offend someone? I really want you to consider all of those things, right? And go, Okay, well, I'm going to put that aside. I'm going to let people think whatever they're going to think. And let them do whatever they want to do. Because at the moment, right now, I'm just going to look at me - what is really true for me in this moment? Am I too busy? Do I have time? Can I give myself 30 seconds grace to check in, and go "If I do all of these things the way I'm doing them, does that serve me?" Does it help me move towards my goals? Or am I getting in my own way here? How responsible am I for creating the situation? And I love that one. Because once you realize that you're responsible for deciding what to do with your time, you're responsible for how many events you go to, you're responsible for what you eat at those events, you're responsible for the time and energy and effort you put into buying Christmas presents, etc. It also means you're responsible for changing it. You take back your ownership. So what is true for me right now, what can I do right now? And the next thing here, that of course, is to keep it simple. Right? So often we overcomplicate (complicate) things, we think about, you know, "I've got to do this and this and this and this, all the things and when all of those things are sorted out, then I can. But what if you don't need to sort all those things out? What if you don't wait till you're motivated? What if you don't have to get in the right headspace? What did you just take action now? What is the easiest step that you could take right now, that moves you towards the place, the goals, the hopes, the dreams that you want to be? What if there's an easy solution? What if it's not hard? If something comes to you, then the next step is to decide on that one thing and act on it. Don't put it off to later, do it now. Just take action on one small thing that you could do for you. That moves you just a teeny step towards your goals. So often, we find ourselves spinning in confusion or doubt, you know, we say things like, "I don't know, I don't know how, I don't know what to do", or "I'm not sure what will be the right thing, what will work out? What if I get it wrong?" And so, in all of that doubt and confusion, then we avoid taking action. And of course, when we avoid taking action, we never learn, we never figure out what works, what doesn't work. We stay in the result that we already have. And for most of us, certainly for most of you, when I talk to you, that's the one you don't like, that's not working for you, that you want to change. And really, that's the cost of staying in limbo, right? Of not doing it. Putting it off means that we have, we keep, what we've got. And if that's not working for us, chances are just staying in it will even cause us to deteriorate further - to move further away from our goal. So when you take action, you create new results. Then you get to evaluate them, you get to look at, well, what worked, that I want to keep and do again, what didn't work that I want to change? And then you repeat the process, you take another action, you take another action, you take another action, and little by little if you pay attention, you will work it out. If you're waiting until you're ready, or if you're waiting until the right time, or the right situation comes up then ask yourself an honest question. Go well, what would that look like? What would it look like for me to be ready to change? What would it look like what my circumstances have to look like in order for me to do something about it? And then I ask you, is that realistic? Are you willing to wait for the chance that that comes around? Or better still? What are you doing now? To get ready to create that circumstance? You know, if you're too busy, what tasks are you delegating? What are you saying no to, so that you can say yes to you. Yes, we only have finite resources, time, energy, motivation, finances. But there is a cost to waiting, to staying in limbo to putting it off until later. And that cost is more time spent practicing the habits that aren't helping, living the life that's not working for you. Along the way you may create even more damage to your mental health. You know, you'll continue to perhaps beat yourself up for not looking after yourself and not doing it. You'll use it as proof that you can't do it, that you're weak willed and lazy, you're no good at it. Because you can't, but it's hard. You just reinforce all of those beliefs, the more time you spend practicing. And if you're a person who's overeating, making poor unhealthy choices, or having too much at the Christmas parties, the end of your functions, you're going to convenience because you don't have time to look after you. And chances are, you're adding more weight to lose later. You're making the later even harder, not easier. Do you want to keep doing that? Or could you get started now? Could you start to figure it out? Would you take action? Could you go, this is the perfect time for me. Learning how to do it now will set me up for the success that I want later.
