Why do you do what you do?
When it comes to your health and well being - what action have you been taking and why? Is that bringing you what you want? If not, it's because of your truth (and, good news, that truth is optional).

Transcript

What are your personal truths about your health, your fitness, your will being? What are your truths about your weight loss efforts so far? In my last video, I made a statement about the best weight loss or fitness plan is the plan that you can sustain. It's the one that you can adopt and make part of your everyday life. It's one you can do forever and that's because, ultimately, it is what you do that matters.
As I said last week, the plan or the program, are mostly irrelevant except as guides to your habits, to being about revealing the choices. So you could consider, for instance, whatever it is that you are currently doing (or not doing, right?) Not what plan you're on or what you should be doing, but what you are actually doing, as your current program.

Take a moment to consider that, because that is what is creating the results in your life. It's what you're doing is giving your results. So what you're doing is your program. So this week, I've been thinking about why do we do what we do? Right? Because for many of us, what we are doing, (are) we come to this place where we realize what we are doing isn't helping. So why do we do what we do?

Well, I believe that our actions are always a result, a consequence, of our thoughts. It is what we're believing to be true that dictates how we act and what we do. It's always because of our beliefs. And that they need to be thinking about, well, considering your program, whatever it is, what are your program truths? What are your beliefs that you've created about yourself?

Now, I've also been thinking, of course, what is true for me? I've been reflecting on what I've changed over the years, right? There been so many truths that I used to believe that I've challenged, (that) and so many new beliefs that I've created for myself. And I'm so grateful that I've done the work to do that. There are many right, like, I'm, you know, I used to think I was Lazy. I used to think I would always be overweight. I was the fat one. I think that no one would ever find me attractive, for instance. I used to think I didn't like myself, I was just no good at this weight loss thing, or social living or being healthy. They just weren't me. I used to think I was no good at exercise.

And as I said, I'm so grateful for giving up those beliefs, for challenging them, for changing them, for actually evolving them into new beliefs, that work so much better for me. Like, for instance, I've been thinking about some of the ones that are true for me right now...

You know, and so I'm a person who eats healthfully, both in my potions and my choices. I have everything in a healthy balance, even indulgences. I'm a person who pays attention and practices awareness. That's what I've been sharing with you over the last couple of weeks. And I create change on purpose. I know That the only thing that ever holds me back is my mind. And I'm willing to take responsibility and ownership of that. I'm willing to change it if I need to. And when I decided to change, I do the work that is required, not in a harsh or hating way, but with love and with self care. I care for my body. I care for my health and my well being through my actions, not just my desires. You know, I love myself enough to never self sabotage with food. I choose never to undermine my health and well being with food.

So those are just some of the examples. But I really want you to think about well, what are you what are your program truth, right? What is truth to you? What is truth?

So maybe we need to delve into that list a bit. So to help you, like it's worth asking "How do we decide that something is or isn't true for us?". And the answer is always that we choose it. We accept that it is true. And we practice and we repeat the thought, until we believe it. Until we feel it. Now, I want you to know, that doesn't make it true. It just means that you now believe that it is true. Which also means that we can change what is true for us, because it's all happening in our brain. It's all in a decision that was repeated enough times to become automatic to become unconscious. When we can bring it back into consciousness, we once again have the power to re choose - or to choose something different.

That's a wonderful thing about being human. That we can disbelieve or that we can believe new things. None of the truths that we have adopted about ourselves - you know think of mine, I'm fat, I'm lazy, can't do it too hard and like myself - none of those have to be true. You can challenge them, right? We can change them whenever we decide that they're no longer serving us. The're there for a reason. They're doing something for us. Somewhere along the right road, our brain has adopted them, either just automatically, we've never challenged the thoughts, the idea or it's been helpful for us in some ways, we've kept it. But we can always step back and say "Well, is it helping me now? Is it leading me to where I want to be? Is it bringing about my success or not? Is it keeping me from my success? Is it holding me back? Is it leading me away from the life I want to be living?" And if so, you get to change it. But first, you have to uncover them.

So how do you find your truth? Well, here's some tips for me, right? Have a look at your expectations. What are you expecting today, tomorrow, this week, over the Christmas holidays, next year, the next five years?  What are your expectations? And notice that most of the time your expectations will be built from your experiences in the past. Which means that they're always examples of past thinking. Right? So just notice that they're always created from our past.

So challenge those expectations. Do you want them? Are they working for you? Do they motivate you to get up and get into action? Does it drive you forward in a way that is joyful and renewing and powerfully caring for you? Is it bringing about your best life? If so probably good one to keep, if not know that you can change it. Know that you don't have to keep the ones you've had.

So examine, what are you currently believing? What belief does your behavior reflect? If you just step back and look at the behavior without judgment, we could just go, Hmm...What belief would drive these behaviors? Once you identify that belief, You then get to ask yourself a really powerful question. I love this one from Byron Katie. She says, "Who would you be without that thought?" Who would you be without that belief? Just imagine being you as you are, but without that belief, let's just take it away. What would become possible for you then? What could be true for you if it's not that?

Sometimes here it's worthwhile going, "what if the opposite is true? (What if) What if believing isn't true? What if that's a lie? What if the opposite could be true?" Is there any way that that could possibly be true? Or is there another thought? Those are just two extremes? Is there another thought along the spectrum somewhere? That could be true for me? And if you can't quite get there, think about well, could it be true for someone else? Could it be true for another human on this planet? And then recognize that if it's true for a human on this planet, that you are a human on this planet. So it could be possible for you.

It's worthwhile having some time and playing with these ideas, what could be possible for you? What could be true for you? What might be fun to believe? So, what do you want to believe? And once you have some, even if you're not quite believing them yet, can you try them on? Can you experiment with them? Remember, they're not permanent. You don't have to keep it forever. So it's not like, well I've made my mind up, now that's my belief, I'm gonna keep it forever. No. We get to opt into that choice every day. We get to change it every time. You can try on new beliefs. I mean, like a new outfit, like a new jacket or clothes or shoes, right? like a hat. You could try it out. You can experiment, play around with it. I can actor rehearsing in a row for a little while just to see what works for you.

You know, think about how could I learn more about myself? How could you learn more about you? How could you make you evolve? Now this one always requires changing something can't stay the same and evolve. You have to do something different. And remember that you also have to stay in this new ability, you have to stick with it long enough, and stay in that action from that new belief long enough to discover the insights. To get the perspective and to see what shifts, right? Remember that your brain will often want to quit at the very first challenge as soon as it becomes hard or there's an obstacle or it didn't work perfectly first time your brain will go... "Well, that was silly. Let's just go back to what we were already believing".

But I want to invite you to remember that if that belief wasn't helping you already, you are no worse off by trying a new one that also isn't helpful. You're just in the same place you were except now you have more knowledge, more wisdom, more experience. You can adjust that belief. You can tweak it, you can learn and try again. You can evolve. And that's the beautiful thing about this journey.

So what will you try? What will you try on? Hopefully? What could you experiment and play with? And when you do try, make sure you're paying attention, like I talked about the last couple of weeks, pay attention to what connects with you and what resonates. You know, it's usually not all or nothing. What parts of it will you keep? What bits that will reinforce the belief, that you want to hang on to those, and what didn't work so well? What can you change? What do you adjust? What do you learn from when you go again?

I really encourage you, if you're watching this video, to spend some time in the days and weeks ahead, to really step back and answer these questions to really ask yourself... Well, what are my program truths? What are your program truths? What truth have you been living up until now? What truth would you like to try on? What truth would you live next? I'd love to know your thoughts. So if you come up with any of those, please share them with me in the comments. Let me know, oh, I've realized I've been believing this. And now I want to believe this. This has been true for me. But I'm deciding that it no longer is, this is what I'd like to make true now.

Of course, remember, if you'd like some help, questioning and challenging your beliefs, or if you'd like some help adopting and living the new beliefs that you want to have, then that's where getting some coaching can really accelerate your success. You know, having someone who's not in your belief, right? Who can step outside and look at them neutrally, who can help not buy in right? A good coach won't believe your story is about your excuses and your reasons why you can't. A coach will also help you see what you're not believing, or see what you are believing. And having someone else who can point out your blind spots or can bring a sense of inquiry and curiosity that you might not have when you're thinking about yourself, while you're thinking you're talking with a friend or a close associate. Coaching is more than a conversation. Remember, the good coach will also tell you what they see even if you might not like it or might not want to hear it. So there is some bravery involved in coaching as well. Of course you always in charge of that. But a coach will support you to believe in the power of your success to believe in your potential, even when you don't quite believe that new belief, yet. I say yet because in coaching we can hold that space for you. We know that you can succeed. As you try it on, as you experiment with it, as you step in to that new life, we can stay firm in that belief for you. Anyway, whether it's me with someone else, it's a great way to accelerate, right? With a coach you can get to your goals and results faster, you can have a deeper level inquiry and understanding. And if you're making changes, a coach can help you make those changes permanent and lasting because we can help you develop the skills you need. Not just how you got there in the end, not just by stumbling onto the answer.

So of course, if you would like to work, find out what it'd be like coaching with me. Then give me a message send me a message on Facebook or book a free exploratory coaching session at www.livemorelife.com.au  that's my website. I'd love to have a conversation with you.
